What is Jaunpur Range Eco Restoration and Research Area?
Jaunpur Range Eo Restoration and Research Area is a project aimed at understanding the ecological issues facing Jaunpur Range, situated in Tehri District of Uttarakhand State in India. The Range is also a major part of the watershed of river Aglar which joins river Yamuna.
This hill range suffers from considerable ecological distress in a number of parts. Entire hills sides are deforested and heavily eroded. During the catastrophic June 2013 cloudburst, a number of villages suffered a lot of damage, we are working closely with one of the worst affected villages.
Why “Area” and not “Project”? Just trying something different from the usual Project.
Following are the key objectives of the project:
- To improve understanding of the causes of ecological damage in the Range
- To undertake measures to bring about ecological restoration in the Range
- To improve livelihood means and small industry in the villages in the Range.
- Preserve positive aspects of local culture and tradition.
